Chips para o ser humano estarão disponíveis em breve

Cientistas da Universidade de Illinois, Estados Unidos, apresentaram esta semana dispositivos eletrônicos ultrafinos, que se dissolvem dentro do corpo humano.

O material é biodegradável e pode desaparecer fisicamente após cumprir seu trabalho. Eles têm cobertura de seda, silício e óxido de magnésio.A pesquisa que mostra sua composição e função está disponível na edição da revista “Science” desta semana.

“Nós nos referimos a esse tipo de tecnologia como eletrônicos transitórios”, explica John Rogers, professor de engenharia da Universidade de Illinois e líder do grupo multidisciplinar de pesquisa.
“Desde o início da indústria de eletrônicos, uma meta perseguida por quem trabalha com a concepção de produtos é construir dispositivos que durem para sempre, com uma performance completamente estável. Mas, se você pensar na possibilidade oposta, em plataformas pensadas para desaparecer fisicamente e de uma maneira programada, então existem muitas outras oportunidades para você”, encerrou.
O silício é a base da maioria dos chips e ele se dissolve na água, mas com o tamanho dos componentes na eletrônica convencional, o processo leva séculos. A opção dos pesquisadores foi usar folhas extremamente finas de silício, chamadas nanomembranas, capazes de se dissolver em dias ou semanas. Como a velocidade do derretimento é controlada pela seda, os pesquisadores alteram o modo como este material é dissolvido.
Em breve o dispositivo será produzido em larga escala e pode ser usado no monitoramento ambiental, retendo materiais biodegradáveis. Mas a principal função prevista é em implantes médicos. Ou seja, colocado sob a pela de uma pessoa para coletar informações sobre seu estado de saúde.
