Brasil teve 66 dias de calor extremo a mais no último ano devido às mudanças climáticas

No último ano, o Brasil teve dois meses a mais de calor extremo, que não teriam ocorrido sem as mudanças climáticas. De 15 de maio de 2023 a 15 de maio de 2024, o país registrou, em média, 65,9 dias adicionais de altas temperaturas devido ao aquecimento global provocado pelas atividades humanas. Na média mundial, o índice foi de 26 dias.

Os dados são de um relatório elaborado pelas organizações WWA (World Weather Attribution), Climate Central e Centro Climático da Cruz Vermelha e do Crescente Vermelho, divulgado nesta terça-feira (28).

O levantamento se baseia em técnicas de atribuição climática, ciência que busca determinar a influência do aquecimento global em eventos climáticos extremos.

A partir de critérios como a duração de eventos com temperaturas muito altas, mortes por calor e perturbações em setores econômicos, o estudo identificou 76 ondas de calor extremo em 90 países diferentes no último ano.

Nesse período, 6,3 bilhões de pessoas (cerca de 78% da população global) viveram pelo menos 31 dias de calor extremo —definidos como aqueles mais quentes do que 90% das temperaturas observadas na região durante o período de 1991 a 2020. No Brasil, 81,8 dias atingiram esse patamar de maio de 2023 a maio de 2024 —em um cenário sem a influência da mudança climática, seriam 17,8 dias.
