A biomédica e professora universitária Deborah Zanforlin, natural de Caruaru, no Agreste de Pernambuco, é a responsável por desenvolver um dispositivo que promete avanços significativos no diagnóstico precoce e tratamento efetivo do câncer.

O projeto de Zanforlin é um chip que detecta 18 tipos da doença em estágio inicial, através de um teste sanguíneo, e dá o resultado ao paciente em apenas 15 minutos.

Deborah viajou nesta quarta-feira (6) para Stanford, na California (EUA), onde vai apresentar o chip na competição internacional BioSciKin, na categoria Life Science. Ela conta que o biosensor mapeia marcadores sanguíneos liberados por células cancerígenas nos estágios iniciais da doença.

Isso permite o diagnóstico precoce do paciente, o que aumenta as chances de cura para 70%. Outra vantagem do chip é que ele não libera radiação. Além disso, todo o sistema do exame é portátil e pode ser levado com facilidade para cidades do interior, onde o acesso ao diagnóstico e tratamento do câncer é difícil.

O equipamento, que alia rapidez e portabilidade, também permite que os testes sejam realizados com maior frequência, já que o intervalo entre as sessões deve ser de, no mínimo, seis meses.

Deborah não descarta que o chip possa ser utilizado para outros diagnósticos. “O chip pode ser utilizado para outras doenças no futuro, mas eu estou há cerca de dois anos focada no diagnóstico e no tratamento do câncer”, ressalta.

Um dos principais objetivos do projeto, que vai ser apresentado na Califórnia nesta quinta-feira (7), é permitir que as pessoas deixem de ver o câncer como uma sentença de morte. *Informações do Portal Uol
